Earthworker Smart Energy Cooperative (ESEC) values and respects the privacy of the people we deal with. Earthworker Smart Energy Cooperative is committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and other applicable privacy laws and regulations.
This Privacy Policy (Policy) describes how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information, and how we maintain the quality and security of your personal information.
What is personal information?
“Personal information” means any information or opinion, whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an identified individual or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. In general terms, this includes information or an opinion that personally identifies you either directly (e.g. your name) or indirectly.
What personal information does ESEC collect?
The personal information we collect about you depends on the nature of your dealings with us or what you choose to share with us.
The personal information we may collect about you includes (but is not restricted to):
- name;
- contact number;
- address;
- photographs of your house, external and internal; and
- any other information required by us to provide you with relevant information, products, services or referrals to improve the energy and thermal efficiency of your home or business.
You do not have to provide us with your personal information. Where possible, we will give you the option to interact with us anonymously or by using a pseudonym. However, if you choose to deal with us in this way or choose not to provide us with your personal information, we may not be able to provide you with our services or otherwise interact with you.
How does ESEC collect your personal information?
We collect your personal information directly from you when you:
- interact with us over the phone;
- interact with us in person;
- interact with us online.
Collecting personal information from third parties
We may also collect your personal information from third parties, for example from EcoMaster and Enviroflex. We collect your personal information from these third parties only when consent is given and use this information only for the purposes for which it was shared with ESEC, i.e. contacting to enquire about draught-proofing work.
What about images taken?
Only with your written permission, ESEC may disseminate images of you and your home across the internet and other forms of media. Your address will never be disclosed unless you have given express permission to do so. At any time you may request for these images to be removed. See “How to contact us” below.
How does ESEC use your personal information?
We use personal information for many purposes in connection with our functions and activities, including:
- to provide you with information or services that you request from us;
- to deliver to you a more personalised experience and service offering;
- to improve the quality of the services we offer;
- for internal administrative purposes.
Is ESEC likely to disclose personal information to overseas recipients?
No.
Disclosure of personal information to third parties
We will only disclose your personal information to third parties in accordance with this Policy in circumstances where you would reasonably expect us to disclose your information. Only the minimum required information will be disclosed i.e. name, contact details. Disclosures include:
- Referral, based on expression of interest, to organisations that perform complimentary household energy saving services.
ESEC will never disclose your personal information to third party marketing providers.
How does ESEC protect your personal information?
ESEC will take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information that we hold about you is kept confidential and secure, including by:
- having robust physical security of our premises and databases / records;
- taking measures to restrict access only to personnel who need that personal information to effectively provide services to you;
- having technological measures in place (for example, managed user permissions, anti-virus software, firewalls).
Retention of personal information
We will not keep your personal information for longer than we need to. We may be legally required to maintain your records for a significant period of time. Once we believe information is no longer needed we may remove any identifying details or destroy the records entirely.
How to access and correct your personal information
ESEC will endeavour to keep your personal information accurate, complete and up to date.

Links to third party websites
The ESEC Website (smartenergycooperative.com.au) provides web links to external third party websites that may benefit the user. These links are provided in good faith. We recommend that you review the policies of any external third party website you view.
Does ESEC use cookies?
ESEC may use cookies to enable understanding of the type of browser and settings used, your journey through our website, repeat visitation and origin of search.
Interactive Surveys
ESEC websites and social media surveys provide you with tools to help analyse the energy and thermal efficiency of your home. Some of these tools may collect personal information you enter when using them.
Analytics Software Tools
Website analytics measurement software tools are used to assist in tracking traffic patterns to and from ESEC websites, surveying users of ESEC and related sites and landing pages. This data is not personal information nor analysed by a third party provider.
